Position Summary

The Director of Accounting is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing the accounting operations of a defined portfolio within Ensemble Healthcare Resource Group helping manage approximately 12 skilled nursing facilities. This position is part of a broader Director of Accounting team (“pods”), each overseeing separate portfolios but working in collaboration to ensure alignment, consistency, and standardization across the enterprise.

The Director will lead all aspects of the monthly close process for their assigned portfolio, ensure accurate and timely financial reporting, and support organizational initiatives tied to process improvement, automation, and financial transparency. While this position does not directly manage Accounts Payable or Treasury, it requires a strong understanding of all components of the financial close cycle and the ability to coordinate across departments to drive results.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on accounting leader with strong technical knowledge, experience in skilled nursing or healthcare operations, and a proven track record in improving efficiency through technology, AI, and system transformation.

Responsibilities / Accountabilities

Portfolio Leadership & Oversight


  • Oversee the full accounting function for a portfolio of approximately 12 skilled nursing facilities, ensuring timely and accurate monthly financials, reconciliations, and reporting.

  • Serve as a key member of the Director of Accounting pod structure, collaborating with peer Directors to align processes, reporting templates, and best practices across the organization., reconciliations, and reporting.

  • Report directly to the CFO and provide insight into portfolio performance, financial risks, and improvement opportunities.

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of accounting staff and managers, fostering accountability, professional growth, and operational excellence.

Month-End Close & Reporting


  • Oversee the full month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes for the assigned portfolio, ensuring consistency and accuracy across entities

  • Review journal entries, account reconciliations, intercompany eliminations, and financial statements.

  • Ensure proper accounting treatment and GAAP compliance for all transactions.

  • Coordinate with AP, AR, and FP&A teams to resolve issues, align on close timelines, and ensure cross-functional visibility into results.

  • Partner with the CFO to deliver actionable financial reporting and variance analysis.

Process Optimization & System Transformation


  • Support accounting transformation initiatives, including AI-driven automation, ERP modernization (Dynamics 365), and workflow standardization (DOOAP, Kyriba, etc.).

  • Identify inefficiencies and propose improvements to accelerate the close cycle, enhance reporting accuracy, and strengthen internal controls.

  • Serve as a champion for data integrity and systems integration across accounting and finance platforms.

Compliance, Audit & Controls


  • Maintain strong internal controls and ensure compliance with GAAP, healthcare regulations, and audit requirements.

  • Prepare audit-ready schedules and serve as the key contact for internal and external auditors.

  • Support Medicaid/Medicare cost reports and related healthcare financial filings.

Collaboration & Strategic Support


  • Collaborate closely with other functional areas — Treasury, FP&A, Payroll, and Operations — to ensure accounting alignment and strategic insight.

  • Participate in enterprise-wide planning, forecasting, and financial review processes.

  • Contribute to the overall Finance Transformation roadmap, aligning portfolio-level performance with company-wide financial objectives.

Specific Educational / Vocational Requirements


  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA or Master’s degree preferred.

  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 3 years in a leadership role overseeing multi-entity operations.

  • Healthcare or skilled nursing experience strongly preferred.

  • Demonstrated success in process improvement, system implementations, and team leadership.

Job / Technical Skills


  • Strong understanding of GAAP, multi-entity consolidations, and intercompany accounting

  • Deep knowledge of financial systems and ERP platforms (Dynamics 365, DOOAP, Kyriba preferred).

  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.

  • Proven ability to lead diverse teams and hold them accountable to measurable outcomes.

  • Strong analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data and provide meaningful insights.

  • High ethical standards, attention to detail, and commitment to accuracy and compliance.
